Wax FAQS
Why Choose Waxing?
Who doesn't want soft, smooth skin? Waxing is amazing because it removes the entire hair shaft, right down to the root. We use a rich and aesthetically beautiful formula that is designed to remove light, medium, and even coarse hair from the most delicate of areas. Titanium dioxide creates a creamy consistency that is easy to spread and is gentle even for the most sensitive skin types.
How long should the hair be for waxing?
It's recommended to have the hair be at least 1/4-inch long or around the size of a grain of rice before you wax. This helps ensure that the hair will be completely removed from the root.
How long should I wait to get waxed after I've shaved?
Waiting 3-4 weeks is recommended. It takes time to grow out each of the 3 cycles. If you come in prematurely, you may not achieve a desirable result.
How long will it last?
If you have been shaving, there may be a transition period. It generally requires 2-3 consistent waxes to achieve optimal results, which are 3-4 weeks of hairlessness, softer hair, and less hair growing back. If you haven't been shaving prior to getting waxed, these results may be obtained more quickly.
Is it okay to shave between appointments?
Waxing slows down and reduces hair growth. Hair also grows much thinner, thus making it easier to remove and less painful when waxed. Shaving just once in between will negate all that is gained from waxing and can further irritate the follicles, which can cause ingrown hair. So, no, we don't advise shaving in between.
What can I expect afterward?
The waxed skin might be tender for a couple of days. We advise taking Ibuprofen to decrease inflammation and skin sensitivity.
I'm on my period. Can I still get waxed?
Yes, if you are not shy, we have no problem waxing you, provided proper hygiene has been exercised. If possible, we recommend that you avoid scheduling your appointment just before or during your menstrual cycle. We recommend this only because we tend to be most sensitive during this time.
What can I do about ingrown hairs?
Exfoliating in the shower with either a scrub or body brush every day helps keep the skin free from cellular buildup, which can trap hair.
Also, keeping the area hydrated with an unscented moisturizer will be beneficial. We offer a few different product options in our salon to prevent and clear the skin of ingrown hairs.
Avoid picking at the area to reduce any scarring and further irritation.
What is the difference between a bikini, tini bikini, and Brazilian?
Bikini: covers 2 inches where the inner thigh meets the Brazilian area.
Tini Bikini: covers the bikini area and is slightly inside the panty-line.
Brazilian: take off as much or as little of the Brazilian area as desired, front and back.
Sugaring FAQs
What is sugaring?
We all know what waxing is. Well, sugaring is the all-natural, healthier version! The natural sugar solution (sugar, water, and lemon) is a paste consistency. It is massaged into the skin by hand at body temperature and then molded against the direction of natural hair growth. With a slicking motion, the solution is then gently removed in the direction of the natural hair growth along with all unwanted hair!
Why is sugaring a great option for hair removal?
- 100% Natural Ingredients:
made from just sugar, water, and lemon!
- Sanitary:
Sugar paste is applied with a gloved hand, and a fresh ball of sugar paste is used for each client, meaning no risk of cross-contamination.
- Less Painful Than Waxing:
Sugar does not stick to live skin cells, only the dead skin cells are removed, so there is less risk of abrasions/tearing and generally less redness than waxing.
- Not Hot:
Sugar paste is body temperature when it is applied, so there is no risk of burning the skin.
- Unique Technique:
Sugar paste is applied against the direction of hair growth, then removed in the direction of hair growth, resulting in a less painful hair removal and less hair breakage.
- Extracts Short Hairs:
Hair growth needs to only be 1/8 inch long to be removed (about 7 days of growth).
- Gentle:
So gentle that it can be used to remove the vellus hair that grows on some women's faces.
- Easy Clean-up:
Sugar paste dissolves easily with water, so there is no sticky residue left on the skin.
